We regret that due to Economic Conditions in the Tucson area Magic Camp has been deferred until 2011.  Please check back with us later for further information.

Hello All,

The NAWIC Tucson Chapter #122 has just completed the first MAGIC Camp in the State of Arizona!! We are so proud!. We had 34 girls graduate June 20, 2008 from MAGIC (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) Camp. Our week was full of hands-on projects as well as classroom instruction in the areas of Safety, Carpentry, Electrical & Welding. There were three projects each girl completed while at camp. From building their own toolboxes to wiring their own lamps to welding a business card holder, there was fun to be had by all. We ended Friday with four limousines picking us up from Marana High School and taking us to a new subdivision being built by Habitat for Humanity. Our girls, met an all girl construction crew who gave a Q & A session and were able to see real girls doing real construction work. We were also able to see different houses in all phases of construction, it was a perfect example of what they had learned all week. Since it was 111 degrees that day and the hottest day of the year to date, we took our limousines to Sonic for ice cream and shakes and we ended our afternoon at El Parador for a luncheon where they were greeted by 170 of their closest friends, family, local dignitaries, our partners and sponsors. It was a life changing event for some of our girls as I have received letters by many who have been filled with inspiration, direction and empowerment. We will be doing this again next year and are looking forward to seeing the same girls and many more!!!
